Delete the program on MacOS

In Windows, users are used to removing applications using the "Control Panel", so they are inserted into a light stupor. No such tool in MacOS. I tell how applications are arranged in the Apple operating system, and how to remove them correctly.

Usually, MacOS applications are installed as APP format packages, which contain all information about them. Accordingly, the package occupies most of the hard disk space, and is also responsible for running the application.

No separate shortcuts and .exe files for launch in MacOS. Therefore, you can formally delete the program by moving this file to the basket.

Through Launchpad.

To remove the application via Launchpad, do the following:

  • Run Launchpad. This can be done by pressing the F4 key or clicking on the rocket icon in the Favorite Application panel (Dock).
Launch Launchpad.
Launch Launchpad.
  • We find an unnecessary program and drag it to the basket.
Drag to the basket
Drag to the basket
  • Under the icon will appear to delete the program. Click "Delete"
Click Delete Program
Click Delete Program
This is the easiest way, but it only works with those programs that have been downloaded from the Mac App Store application. Applications loaded from other sources must be deleted via Finder.

Through Finder.

To remove the application via Finder, do the following:

  • Run Finder by clicking on the CMD + N key combination either by clicking on the icon in the panel with your favorite applications.
Run Finder
Run Finder
  • Open the "Programs" tab.
We go to the program tab
We go to the program tab
  • We find what we want to remove and drag to the basket.
  • Clean the basket.
On the Windows keypad, the ⌘ CMD symbol is a key with the Windows logo.

Formally, there is no more on your computer for this program, but there is one important "but". Installed applications store temporary files and user data in the Library folder. They can take a lot of space on the disk and do not disappear if the program itself is transferred to the basket. Therefore, you will have to delete them separately or use special utilities that will do it for you. I prefer the second option, but many he raises distrust, so I will tell you about the first.

Stripping temporary files

Removing the so-called "garbage", which leaves after all the application without exception, can also be done manually, moving it to the basket. Just need to first find it. This is done as follows:

  • Run Finder by clicking on the CMD + N key combination either by clicking on the icon in the panel with your favorite applications.
  • Click the ⌥ Option key and click the cursor to the "Transition" item in the toolbar.
Click on "Transition"
Click on "Transition"
  • In the drop-down list, select the "Library" item.
  • In the list of folders we are looking for the one that is called just as the remote program and transfer it to the basket.
  • Clean the basket.
On the Windows keyboard, the ⌥ Option symbol is alt.

Delete using third-party programs

In order not to dig in the system files manually, you can charge it with third-party programs or use the uninstallastors that are included with the program being downloaded.

Definators from application developers

Some developers attach special utilities to their programs to remove them. Among them:

  • Adobe products.
  • Office pack Microsoft Office.
  • Various plugins for music sequencers (Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, Cubase).

These programs are supplied as images in DMG format. Inside each of them has an Install file and Uninstall file. The first is responsible for installing, repairing and reinstalling, and the second is for deletion.

And to delete a program with such a file, just:

  • Run uninstall double click.
  • Click Next.
  • Follow the instructions and wait for the end of uninstallation.

MacOS cleaning programs

There is a whole series of utilities for cleaning MacOS from different garbage and removal of programs. Above, I have already mentioned that applications installed in the Apple system leave a lot of garbage even after removal.

Starting CleanMymac X.
Starting CleanMymac X.

To freely delete the program and not leave any traces, I use the CleanMyMac X application. It is quite popular, as it is actively moving on the network. I installed it to manually do not dig in temporary files and once a couple of months cleans the garbage from the system.

At the same time, it has a convenient uninstaller, which instantly removes any programs with MacOS. For this:

  • Open the Count "Uninstallator" in CleanMymac X.
  • We find an unnecessary application and put a tick left of it.
  • Click on the "Delete" button at the bottom of the interface.
Remove selected
Remove selected

To then delete remote applications, I open the "residues" graph, select all applications and click "Delete" again.

We delete "residues"
We delete "residues"
Many are skeptical about similar programs and are worried about their personal data. For efficient work, CleanMyMac X requires a deeper introduction into the system by obtaining special access rights and downloads to MacOS auxiliary utilities. During the existence of this service, he has never compromised personal information of users, so I believe that he can trust.

Deleting embedded applications

In MacOS, the default services and Apple applications are pre-installed. Remove them with conventional methods will not work, but it can be done through the "Terminal" before the system loads.

Delete these applications is only as acute necessity, since the correct operation of the operating system may depend on them.

To remove from a computer Apple iTunes or any other built-in program:

  • Restart the computer and enter into its recovery mode by pressing the key ⌘ Cmd + R.
  • In the toolbar that appears, select the "Utilities" item.
  • In the listed list we are looking for the "Terminal" and launch it.
  • Then we enter the CD / Applications command and press the Enter key. (This is the transition to the folder with applications).
  • Then enter the Sudo RM -RF iTunes.App (instead of iTunes enter the application you want to delete) and press the "Enter" key. This is the launch of the utility to delete files with pre-designated arguments and issued administrator rights to delete.
